The Sosnowiec Art Centre – Sielecki Castle

The Sosnowiec Art Centre was established in 2002 as the seat of the „Extravagance” Municipal Art Gallery, which was formed by the local authorities in 1992. The stunningly restored Sielecki Castle, one of the oldest monuments of the city, whose history dates back to the medieval period, has since 2003 been functioning as a seat of the Sosnowiec Art Centre, which has been continuing the good traditions of the „Extravagance” Municipal Art Gallery. The activity of the gallery includes various areas, such as organization of exhibitions of eminent artists, promotion of young artists and presentation of the works of various art workshops. By selecting the artists or organizing thematic exhibitions, the gallery fulfills an educational role, consisting in showing the most significant aspects of the contemporary art and trends in its development. Each presented exhibition is accompanied by extended promotional material in the form of issued catalogue, brochures or rich photographic and text documentation.

The Sosnowiec Art Centre – Sielecki Castle also organizes various lectures and talks in the field of the history of art and culture. Apart from its exhibition and educational activities, the centre is also a place where you can buy contemporary art works. The gallery collects contemporary art works, amassed from gifts given to it by the artists it had the pleasure to cooperate with while presenting exhibitions of their works.

xtravagance Gallery, the Sosnowiec Art Centre – Sielecki Castle also has the Historic Department, which organizes exhibitions connected with the history of the city and of the Sielecki Castle as well as Department for the organisation of musical and theatre events.
